With his smellscape Paul Divjak is stepping into an olfactory dialogue with the current exhibition at the Jewish Museum: „A Streetcar Named Desired“, which takes the visitors on a reflective journey through Jerusalem by following the route of tram number 1, crossing and connecting the various „Jerusalems“.
In „L´année dernière à Jersualem“ the artist is describing a stroll through the city of Jerusalem. Subjective memories concerning the sense of smell enfold a assiciative and symbolic bouquet of the Holy city, center of three religions. Such evoking the aura of the very place of different cultures.

Wien scheint immer noch unter einer Glocke der denkmalgeschützten Historie zu schlummern. – Bisweilen aber erschließen sich auch in der Erinnerungskultur erweiterte, neue Perspektiven.

Die Tage rumorte es wieder einmal im Archiv; das Video Heldenplatz, 1973 kursierte im Netz, zog seine Spur durch die sozialen Plattformen. Zum Vorschein kam eine nur auf den ersten Blick unscheinbare ORF-Interviewserie, entstanden Anfang der Neunzehnsiebzigerjahre auf dem Wiener Heldenplatz. Was sich als alpenländische Tableaux Vivants vor dem Hintergrund des historischen Ortes auftat, hätte prototypische Alltagsfaschismusfolie für Qualtingers „Herrn Karl“ oder Thomas Bernhards 1989 uraufgeführtes gleichnamiges Theaterstück sein können. — mehr —

A site-specific intervention, an acoustic and performative mapping of the physical and symbolic space at the occasion of the opening of the new AIL. A location, which used to house a gallery of an Austrian bank, and a pile company, as well as the renown Jewish Cultural Theatre until the year 1938. – With special equipment Paul Divjak and Wolfgang Schlögl are searching for the yet unheard, and creating a live-soundscape of the memory of space.
