A sonic island of peace and contemplation which distances itself from the now popular wellness and esoteric music genres. A well deserved respite for the ear and brain, the body and soul. A sonic antidote against the stresses of daily life. In these compositions Divjak disassembles the daily noises of our modern lifestyle taken from urban field recordings. Then he takes tiny micro samples of these sounds and places them within his own short piano soundbites constructing repetitive hypnotic patterns. Through his unhurriedness and laidback diversity, Aural Siesta exudes the peace and beauty of a Japanese garden. Always on the lookout for something new this album delivers relief for the senses and majesty for the moment.

Paul Divjak – Collected Releases

It’s simply unbelievable, that already 20 years passed since my first release “so fine” (7″) on sue.mi (Berlin/Prague). In the very same year, 2002, Hans Platzgumer, with whom I had the chance to collaborate on my first EP, mentioned Konkord Records, a young team of audiophile enthusiast from Vienna. I got in contact with Wolfgang Reitter and the boys (back then they really were young) from “the friendly record label” from Vienna, and learnt to appreciate their vast pop historical knowledge and musical expertise. To cut a long story short: We released the EP “A Glimmer of Hope” together in 2005. And ever since Konkord turned out to be the very trusted homebase for my musical concepts and releases. – I’m already pretty much looking forward to celebrating a “Best Of” at the occasion of our 20-years anniversary. Here’s to you, Konkorditos!***

Echte Gefühle für eine rastlos verkabelte Welt.

Spätabends, das letzte Bier klingt nach, und das Interesse für Raum und Zeit ist in der Kneipe zurückgeblieben. Die Leistungskurve ist auf den Nullpunkt gesunken, und das ist gut so. Umgeben von Wohlgefühl ist das Subjekt endlich anderswo. Leichten Fußes geht es durch akustische Klangwelten nach Hause, wo wir uns bald unter einer wohltemperierten Decke wieder finden.  Draußen ist es Nacht, und es ist dunkel. Hinter den Schleiern des Pianos begleitet uns der Rhythmus verschleppter Beats durch die goldene Dämmerung in den Traum. Die letzten Bilder des Tages bespielen die innere Leinwand, die Geräusche ziehen in endlosen Loops durch das Unterbewusstsein. Leicht ist der Schlaf im ersten Licht des Morgens…

„Paul Divjak klopft mit seiner CD „rauschgold“ – entstanden in Zusammenarbeit mit B.Fleischmann – sanft an die Pforten der Wahrnehmung und öffnet melancholische Räume der Kontemplation. Der kreative Allrounder (Literatur, Film, Foto, Musik, Theater, Mode) stellt nach „a glimmer of hope“ (KONKORD 005) ein neues elektronisches Konzeptalbum vor. Wieder beeindruckt Divjaks Fähigkeit, mit minimalem Aufwand dichte, atmosphärische Klangbilder zu schaffen. „rauschgold“ ist abstrakte Ambient Music im besten Sinne. – Assoziativ und traumhaft schön!“

Bee-Pop-A-Lula, you’re my honey! Zwei Dirigenten und gut 100.000 Musiker – solch ein großes Orchester gab es wohl noch nie zuvor in der Geschichte des Field Recording. Die beiden Künstler Paul Divjak und Wolfgang Schlögl (aka I-Wolf) bilden zusammen das Team Tool Time, verpflichtet der angewandten Klangforschung an der Schnittstelle zwischen Alltag und Kunst. Für das erste Album des Teams wurde im Sommer 2012 der Lebensraum der Apis mellifera, also der westlichen Honigbiene besucht.

The Western world has a brief history of ecstasy. Affected through and through by a belief system that triggered off the industrial revolution, achievement and pleasure were perceived as opposite poles of time spent. Work meant the construction of order. Pleasure meant indulgence in disarray. Formulated in more precise terms by Calvinism, such assumptions opened the world for the industrial revolution and the almost religious accumulation of wealth an property.

Also at the dawn of the revolution of the cultural industry, the same paradigms can be found. Freeing Rock´n´Roll from the indulgent disarray of darker and more intimate urges, over-achievers such as the Beatles would turn music into work. Manufacturing order in any possible aspect, intuition was replaced by multi-track recording and improvisation became theory. — mehr —
