Paul Divjak, a Vienna based artist, started off in the mid-1980s producing Super-8 films combining experimental footage with soundtracks from bands like Crime & the City Solution and Depeche Mode. As an independent film and video maker he then produced short films shown at international festivals before he turned to music videos for musicians like Werner Moebius, b.fleischmann, Hans Platzgumer, and more. In 1993 he began exploring the field of art, doing film/video installations, shown in museums and gallerys in Austria, Germany, England, and Poland. His friendship with a painter who turned into a writer got him into writing, too. In 1998 his novel "eisenbirne" was published. From then on writing became more and more essential. Two books, "lichtstunden" and "schattenfuge," were published within the following couple of years, and his first play "sofa surfen" was shown at Vienna´s Burgtheater, Casino. During a group show in Germany he is mixed up with a fellow artist by a Berlin based label head. Divjak is supposed to be a sound artist, and therefore invited to complete his first 7" vinyl. His living room is converted into a micro studio where he explores with tools and tracks for the next several months. Exactly one year later, "so fine" is released in the autumn of 2001. This little piece of music was the beginning of his electronical soundworking career. Since Divjak had classical piano lessons when he was a teenager and played drums in a band in school, the field of music was one with personal roots. In 2005 he released the album "a glimmer of hope," produced by Hans Platzgumer (H.P. Zinker, Queens of Japan, Convertible AO); and in 2006, the EP "Rauschgold" featuring b.fleischmann (Duo 505, The Year of AO) followed on Konkord. 2007 the novel "Kinsky" and the "st. moritz"-ep, which was originally recorded at the Palace Hotel in St. Moritz, were released. In 2009 the EP "Money", produced by Wolfgang Schlögl aka I-Wolf followed. Recently Divjak´s new book "Unter einer leuchtend grünen Wiese verbirgt sich ein gespenstischer Frauenkopf in düsteren Farben" was published. Late Autumn 2011 brings the release of Divjak´s new CD "Science Fiction Pocket Museum". |
